Week 11-Reflections

Unfortunately, I'm afraid I have even less time than I did last week, but I'm typing like mad, so we'll see what comes out!

It was quite the treat to be able to see you all yesterday! Hearing Leila make all of those animal sounds made me realize just how much time really has passed since I first got here, and it forced me to reflect on how much my perceptions on the world and the people therein have changed in just such a short time. It's such a blessing to be able to be numbered among the Lord's army, and it always surprises me just how short of a time I have to be an official representative of Jesus Christ! At least I have the consolation that I can always be His representative: even without the name tag.

I love you all, and very rarely does a day go by where I don't think about some funny story or memory to share with Elder Lauzon; he's probably sick of it by now, but it happens anyway. I just have too many good memories to share!

Here are some helpful hints about packages sent by his mission president:

Please keep packages small. Parcels are often transported across the mission in small, crowded vehicles. It is best that packages be sent by regular mail rather than UPS or FedEx. If the package, up to $60 value, is not marked GIFT (especially if sent by UPS), your missionary will pay expensive brokerage fees in addition to custom fees often in excess of the value of the package. Always mark every package clearly as "GIFT," "PERSONAL CLOTHING," "USED ITEMS," or "MISSIONARY SUPPLIES." If there are any duty or brokerage charges to receive a package here in Canada, your missionary will have to pay.

Calgary is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. Originally named Fort Brisebois, it was renamed Fort Calgary in 1876 by Colonel James Macleod. It was named after Calgary on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. While there is some disagreement on the naming of the town, the museum on the Isle of Mull explains that kald and gart are similar Old Norse words, meaning "cold" and garden". Alternatively, the name might come from the Gaelic, Cala gerraidh, meaning "beach of the meadow pasture".

The latest 2012 and 2013 report from the Economist Intelligence Unit said Calgary was tied for fifth-best place, with Adelaide (Australia), to live in the world. In addition, Money Senses's "Best Places to Live in Canada for 2013" study, ranks Calgary as the number one best city overall. The Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranked Calgary as the world's cleanest city for 2013.
